Ok my wifes car a 1992 honda accord ex needs to have the rotors replaced, warped rotor. My local mechanic said that with labor and parts would cost between $550.00 to $600.00 I said WHAT, he said that the rotors would cost $70 each, bearings $80 each, brakes $28 each and labor around 3 hours or $250. He said the bearing's get damaged when you remove the rotors on honda's ( I don't think thats true). Of course i said forget it. I called a brake place and they said they can turn the rotors while on vehicle. Did that. total cost $60.00 (I had my own new brakes)
I've done brakes on a 92 accord before. First of all, it's a 40 minute job if you know what you're doing, and that's taking the rotors off the car. Second, the bearings don't get ruined taking the rotors off.
Man, it ticks me off when repair shops try to rip people off.
I knew he was ripping me off. I have replaced rotors on other vehicles and kind of knew what was going on. The only reason I brought this to a mechanic, is honda has horrible design on rotor replacement. have to seperate ball joint form lower control arm, move spindal out place, remove caliber braket, then remove hub from rotor. did not want to deal with. I thought.... pay 200 or 300 hundered dollar's for total job not a big deal.
