I have a '76 F100 Long Bed Ranger. I guess it's a 1/2 ton. I know this may be a dumb question, but how much weight can I put in the bed of this. I have some flooring that the manu says will weigh about 1600 lbs. Some say that this weight will be fine, some say not.
Please let me know your experiences and if this should fly or the rear axle is going to fly!
Thanks for the reply. I thought so, but remember years ago when my Uncle dropped the rear end out of his Chevy truck full of firewood and would hate to have recreate that nightmare. Of course, it was a Chevy.
You probably have a Ford 9" in the rear, so the weight you mention is NO problem. However, a problem with 2500-3000lbs comes in the springs area. If I am remembering right, in 1976 the F100 only had 4 springs in the rear where as the F150 had a 5 spring pack. Plus, tires are also a concern here. Look at there rating too. IMHO, the 1600lbs would be a close MAX limit...maybe the 2000lbs. But certainly not 3000lbs. Again...just MHO...
I have 51k miles on this truck and tires w about 5k miles on them. I appreciate your response. I am going to load it up with the 1600lbs and take it easy down the road (about 100 miles).
Hi,
My truck is a 78 f-150 4x4 with a six foot bed. I haul water on it in a 210 gal. tank. I was hauling it 5 miles until they put in a new water station about a mile down the road. I,m not sure what a gal. of water weights but it's around 8 to 10 lbs. at 8lbs. thats a little over 1600lbs. and it's one he** of a load on this truck. I sure wouldn't want to haul it 100 miles. I'd would at least want 4 to 6 ply tires and stops to let tires cool. you don't want to have to jack that load up if you loose a tire. You may have no problems at all and a 8 foot bed could make a difference. Myself on my truck there's no way I'd haul that load that far. I would have to be thinking 1ton rental. good luck!
Ken,
combine your four tires weight limit. assuming std load tires that woudl be about 2028 lbs each so about 8100 lbs of capacity. that is higher than your 6050 or so weight limit on your truck.
assuming your truck weighs in around 4000 lbs, that allows about 2000 lbs of weight-carring capacity. (you, any passengers the fuel, and cargo)
1600lbs with two passengers sounds about right.
weigh your truck with a full tank(s) of fuel and determine for yourself.
