I have a 94 f150, 4x4, 5L, 4r70w auto. I am in the process of fixing my torque converter clutch problem where the clutch keeps disengaging at strange times. I bought the Ford factory manual and it identifies five possible sensors which could cause my problem. They are Brake On/Off, Mass Air Flow (12B579), Throttle Position (9B989), Output Shaft Speed Sensor (7H103) and Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module. My manual has specs on the Brake and Output shaft sensors, but for the others I am refered to the emission control and diagnostic manual. This is frustrating since I paid about $100 for this book and it is incomplete!
Anyway, does anyone know a way to test these sensors with a multimeter to verify they are in spec?
Have you not found the pinpoint or quick tests for what you are dealing with ? They will walk you thru everything & are the easiest diagnostic routines I think I have ever used .
I'm not Paul, but test equipment requirements vary depending on which sensor you're trying to test. A MAP sensor requires a DVOM capable of measuring Hz. A VSS sensor requires only a conventional DVOM. The Ford PCED/Emissions Control-Diagnostics manual tells you exactly what test equipment is required for a given sensor. PCEDs are available from Helm Inc. at http://www.helminc.com
