I'd like to put a new muffler on the 1993 F150 4X4 I just got. It has an Inline 6 cylinder and I'd like to know what I could put on it to give it a good deep rumble. I know glass packs are good but I heard they don't sound good on 6 cylinders. Any ideas would help, thanks.
The factory cats are practically the mufflers in these trucks. I had mine with no muffler (5.0 V-8) and it was quiet. Just a tiny rumble you could barely hear. Get a hi-flow cat or chop off the cats and it will get real loud.
You really have to prepare yourself for the sound of a glasspack on a straight six. I personally like it, but it will never ever be mistaken for a V-8! It sounds like a tractor on steroids! But, as was mentioned earlier-If your truck has cats don't even bother with a muffler. It will be really quiet. The upside to all this is you will definitly notice a power improvement. On my 94 f150 I hacked off the old muffler and put a little 12in glasspack in there. Still cant hear it(cats) but it definitely let some horses go. A lot less overdrive/3rd hunting on the freeway.
hey guys, just thought Id let you know my recent setup. I cut off the second cat and stuck on a high flow cat in its place, I then ran 3" to an original flowmaster 40 series and out into a 3.5" tip in front of the rear wheel. and boy let me tell you she sounds good. i kinda wanted both cats off and a single hi-flow in its place but new jersey is pretty gay what it comes to exhaust rules. system put me back about $300. hope this will help. good luck friends!!!!
i have magna flows on my v8 they have a nice low rumble noise, like glass packs. the flowmasters on v8 have a loud tinny sound which personally i dont like.either way you go you'll be stuck with them for awhile.
