Could someone please tell me what year & type alternator I can just mount on my '36 FH and hook it up and go with it???!!!! Ford must have something the will fit. Thanks~JH
Don't know if you've noticed or not, but sometimes it takes some time to get your answer here, or anywhere for that matter. Resto'ing this old of a truck is less common than say a '69. Might try positing this in the Flathead forum also.
Good luck and please do let us know how things work out. The info you discover will most likely help someone down the road.
If you are asking if there is a bolt in alternator to replace the generator, without alteration, I think the answer is no. However, it seems like somebody is producing an alternator in a generator lookalike body. What model generator body and who is producing it will have to come from other members.
Most people with alternators have had to do some modifications in mounting and alignment to accomplish the changeover. I did, and everyone else I have heard of had to do similar mods.
Like I said in the e-mail, GM 1 wire and 2 wire alternators are popular as swaps, but there are a lot of other options as well.
The specifics of how I mounted the alternator won't help you, because it is in a 1956 motor. Often the modification of stock brackets and mounts will get the task done.

I should have savewd the link for you, but on Ebaymotors I saw a bracket for $39.00? to mount an Alt on a FH V8...try a search for "alternator bracket Flathead", it should come up...You should probably email the seller/vendor to see what type Alt it's for.
I bought one of those brackets on eBay that 3Mike6 is referring to. It is a bolt in, and he does list one for the '32-'41 flathead. It mounts a GM alternator. He sells just the bracket in raw steel, or you can buy it with the alternator as well as a combo deal.
The alternator with the looks of a generator that 46yblock refers to is made by PowerMaster Motorsports, it's called a PowerGen. Here's a link to their site: http://www.powermastermotorsports.com/whats_new.html
Hey folks! Thanks to all who answered my question about a bolt-on alternator kit for a '36 FH. One place in particular seems to have what I need. They sell stuff like this on E-bay so their address is; www.certifiedautoelectric.com. Will keep in touch. JH
