Is the truck defueling the whole time the SES light is on or just while the truck is overboosting, how many lbs of boost triggers it and how much further until I'm pushing the stock turbo? Can someone post a link on how to get rid of the SES light?
Once the SES light is triggered for overboost the PCM will stay in the lower fueling map until the next drive cycle. 24 psi triggers the light on 99-03 trucks, I think it's 22 osi for the 94-97's. The journal bearings in the stock turbo are manufacturer rated for 25 psi.
Thanks for the link. Mine is a 01, so if I can only run 25 lbs of boost and I'm hitting 24 there is no sense in killing the SES light, right? Does the defueling keep you at or around 24 lbs or does boost suffer alot. Just wondering, if defueling drops the boost down alot if it would make more sense to back off on the power so I can run as much boost without triggering the SES. If this is as fast I can go with the stock turbo that thing is outta here. Any suggestions I hate doing things twice so whats a good turbo that will do anything I want it to do without compromising the stock internals.
An even easier way to kill the SES light is called a boost fooler. Its just a harness that gets plugged in between two connectors at the MAP sensor. Check out www.smokindiesel.com . That part isnt listed but call the number and for about 10 bucks (if i remember correctly) it will be at your door in like 2 or 3 days. I havent had any problem with it yet and my boost has been up to 29 lbs so far.
