I am updating an older post with everything I have tried to no avail. When my motor is running I get a weird squeeking sound that is proportional in volume and frequency to the RPM. It is not a steady squeal like you would get with a belt. If I rev it up for a second it will make a few loud "tweet" noises as the RPM's settle back down and then it turns into a quieter, random tweeting as the engine is running. Sorry for the description, but that is the best way I can explain it. I tried removing the serpentine belt completely and running it in park for a few seconds, and the tweet is just as loud. So, that eliminated every idea I had since I figured it was related to a pulley of some kind. I had also heard the torque converter could be a possibility, but the tranny fluid looks good and full. I would really appreciate any other possibilities before I pay someone to look at it. Thanks!
You are correct, sir. The water pump is turned by the serpentine belt. If it squeaks w/out a belt, then you can rule out the water pump. Any idling or shifting issues?
May be a main bearing or the harmonic ballancer. I have a 1982 so I'm not sure if yours is the same but after time they sepperate , mine was making a squeek or wabbling sound. They have an inner part then rubber then an outter part and when it
sepperates it can fly off and do alot of damage.

The idel would not always be affected if its the ballancer ,my ran great ,except for the squeek.Look at it with the motor running and see if it looks ,well, out of ballance.
Wabbaling or you may have a main bearing going out and could make a squeek , both of what I think it might be does not require the belt to be on. Check the ballancer though if it comes off it can really mess your truck up.
Mine was easy to see,the rubber was starting to come out in the front and it "wobbled" a little ,made a "squeek wha wha "kind of sound, sorry its hard to write sounds.
Success! I used a rubber hose and tracked the noise to the area of my front catalytic converter. I could hear rattling when I knocked on it. After a little surgery with the sawzall and welder the truck sounds better than ever! Strange that it sounded like a squeek and not a rattle. Thanks for all the help.
