I have a 1968 Chrysler Newport and i think it has a 727 trans in it. i was wondering, first, if it does have a 727 in it and if it does, how much fluid and what kind of fluid it takes?
Its either a 727 or a 904, more than likely a 727.
As for the fluid it takes Dextron Mercon III and it will hold 11 Qts dry and 5 qts for a filter change.
You can't kill them if you change the filter.
Mostly the filter plugs with a small amount of goop... the pressure drops ... and then the clutches burn... and REALLY plugs the filter. Other than that, they'll last forever. They (both 727 & 707?) were excellent transmissions, and give very good service. Easy to work on, too.

daddy outlaw. with your fluid capacities, do you mean 5qts total if i change the filter or 5qts extra with a filter? i am going to drop the pan, put on a new gasket and change the filter. how much do i put in?
