I have a 1997 EB Expy with the Mach stereo system and I am curious as to how the rear audio works and what is it's purpose in the vehicle ? I do not have the book for the stereo system (it didnt come with the vehicle when I bought it used). Is it so the passengers in the back can listen to something different thru headphones while the driver listens to music thru the speakers? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
To turn on the rear seat controls, press the memory preset controls 3 and 5 at the same time. The headphone icon will appear in the display. Pressing 3 and 5 at the same time again will turn the rear seat controls off.
I understand that part but is the rear system there for the passengers to be able to listen to something different than what the driver is listening to?
the rear controls are simply there to allow the middle seat passengers to operate the radio/cd. no, they cannot listen to something different. they are simple "controls". sit back there and play with them to familiarize yourself with their functionality.
you can search this forum to find a pdf manual online. the manual willl also help you with the maintenance schedule and other referencable material.
Actually in my Explorer if you press the little button by the headphones it goes into dual mode and in the rear you can listen to a diffrent radio station then the front and even a CD while the front is listing to the radio, or visa versa. I have even found that one in the back can listen to the CD in the dash while the front can listen to the ones in the CD changer. I dont know if the setup is diffrent in the Expedition.
Monsta is correct, You can have the rear and front listen to the same radio station or switch to dual mode and listen to seperate sources. When in dual mode the rear seat controls will allow the rear seat occupants to designate their souce and select tracks or stations, as well as volume.
