Flowmaster muffler
Guys,
I have just changed my stock muffler (02 explorer XLT 4.0) with a 70 series Flowmaster muffler but I am noticing at higher RPM's it seems to be miss firing or something, short little flat spots only at high RPMs.
Do I need to re-tune the truck for the change in exhuast?
Any ideas or help ???

is it happening at high rpms and when you let off the gas?
on most muscle cars at high rpm and when you let off the gas, there will be a popping sound coming out of the exhaust. that is perfectly normal with flowmaster mufflers. my wife's 5.0 mustang does it and so does my 460 mustang, along with all other muscle cars with flowmasters.
if its not, then i'm not sure what your experiencing. maybe something malfunc. right after you put that in.
does putting an aftermarket muffler voiding the warranty?

I know what your talking about and that's not it, it's during power and it's not a noise it feels like a flat spot in the power.
It's a dead spot for a fraction of a second or maybe a second and it occurs every 1 - 2 seconds during heavy acceleration. (these are all very rough guesses but I'm trying to put this into words so...)

sorry i can't help you on your question, but i was wondering how the flowmaster souds. i have the same truck and was looking to do some exhaust upgrades, but without geting that honda civic sound. anyway sorry to get your thread off track, i was just wondering. thanks.

thanks man. i've been tryin to look for something but just to scared to spend the money because chances are i won't like nt. anyway if i run into something good i'll let ya know. later

Yeah, if you're looking for that nice big V8 power sound, don't do the flow master, find something else !

Hello im new to the fourm lors of good info here!!! Iave a 98 explorer 4.0V6 shoc and im looking for a exhaust upgrade what do you guys think of Gibson ?

When reving your engine at very high rpms, the engine seem like it not getting enough gas. That's the rev limiter kicking in, not the fault of your flow masters.

Nice thought - I had also considered that however, I think the rev limiter would prevent further preformance rather than just interuptions every second or two.I was climbing a mojor hill on a hwy here in BC once and it basicly shut the engine down (not off), that would be more like a rev limiter I think.
