thats a good tech article, I have been running delco alt on my fords for years, the biggest problem is making sure the belt lines up and that takes some shimming and careful measuring but the wiring is pretty simple. although I run both wires in the 2 wire plug together into a keyed power source it doesn't matter really weather that one is bat or keyed and both types work just fine.
I upgraded my 60 amp alt to a 100 amp alt and kept the external regulator because it is better than the one wire setup. I was told that the external regulator produces less of a voltage drop than the one wire setups. The 100 Amp alt. cost me just a hair more than a stock 60 Amp. It is a very good upgrade and I would highly recommend it.
I run a 3G off a newer tauras on my 82 stang...(external regulated). I had a wiring diagram for it back then, but would have to look if interested. Love it, but i did loose my alt gauge...dont know why that is.
3g is a very easy upgrade. mine bolted right on to my 400 in my 78 bronco. 130 amps. my buddy has a 1 wire GM alt and the thing does not put out enough current it is rated @ 100 amps but @ idle it seems to put out 40 amps. my 3G is putting out around 85-90 amps @ 900 rpm engine idle.
