You should be able to run 38" tires on whatever rim. You should have no clearance issues as long as you get a good set of springs. I know Super Lift and BDS have good 8 inch systems. Depending on the width of the tire you are going to run, you may have to go with 12 inch wide rims with the right backspacing to ensure you do not rub on the springs near full lock turning.
well how much does it cost to have a driveshaft lenghtened?? the part is made to do this job but isnt recommended for desert racing or i suppose high speed use. regular use it should be fine. i wouldnt think it would simply break. i also think they come with the superlift systems now as well. no one besides me knows about this?
I had mine lengthened 5 1/2" for $40.00. Just make sure you know a good welder. Shoty welds break too. I have not heard about them recently, but I have not been reading on them. Sounds good in theory though. But that is a lot of a spot I would not want something that is not recommended for high speed or desert. Depends on what you are doing when you have the front locked in.
Depending on how well you know the guy doing the work, could be a few bucks more or less. Just make sure he does good work. The guy that did it for me balanced it again. We have had no problems of the 3 drive shafts we have had done.
So I have a 00 Regular cab 4x4 with the 5.4L. If I installed a 8 inch Superlift all I would need to do is lengthen the front drive shafts? 3 inchs or so? Also what would be the widest tire I could run on the truck 15.5 or 16 ?? Thanks, John
I helped build the 00 regular cab 4x4 that FordSDF350 drives. He has ran 39.5/15x16.5 TSLs. We put an 8 inch SuperLift kit on his. All spring. So I would say you could run up to 15 inch wide tires. His kit is all spring also. And the only thing we had to do to his is add a few inches to his front drive shaft.
i currently have a 6 inch superlift can i get away with just buying springs in the front or do i need pitman arm and track bar bracket for an 8 inch lift or will the six inch stuff work?
I was hoping DC and Bear would chime in on another question.
Are there any driveline vibrations F/R using the stock driveshafts on takeoff? (DR lift of course)
A new High Angle Driveline rear 2-piece driveshaft costs $960 and would like to avoid that if necessary. Vibrations bug me to the point that I WILL spend the $ if necessary.
A two piece for a regular cab? My experience, reg. cab and Super Crew is that we are running our stock rear drive shafts. Changed nothing, except the obvious SC carrier bearing spacer. And we experience no vibrations. Unless you put the carrier bearing spacer on backwards. Then you get ALL sorts of noise. haha
The two piece High Angle Driveline with the CV after the carrier bearing is $689.00 plus a $250 core that is refunded when you ship back your stock driveshaft.....at least that's what it was when I got mine. That's what I run in the rear of my truck and it works great. Jesse at High Angle is a very knowledgeable and friendly guy to deal with as well.
