does anyone know if a 400 out of 79 lincoln is the same block as my 351m in my 78 f250 will this motor bolt up to my c6 tranny? blew up my 351m last week mudding.looking for a replacement thanks
There should be a sticker on the valve cover. Plus if you say they both have an M stamped into them, thats a good indication. They should phisicly look the same.
The quickest way to tell is look at the valve covers and the back of the block. If the valve covers look the same as your 351m, and the back of the block is real wide between the top two bolt holes, you have either a 351m or 400 on your hands. the only way to know for sure which it is is to check the #s on the block or tear it down and measure the stroke of the crank. I know this because I had a 351m in my 78 F-150 ranger that crapped out on me. I went the the junk yard and bought what was supposed to be a 351m and dropped it in my truck. That was like 2 years ago. I just pulled it out to do the bottom end (preventative maintenence) and only found out when I went to have my crank turned that it was really a 400. I ran it in my truck for 2 years before I actually knew that it was a 400 instead of a 351m. So, to make a short story very long, take it from experience, it will bolt right in no problem. You will probably have to put your motor mounts on it, of course, if it came out of a lincoln, though. Best of luck to ya!
