On my 88 F-150 with the 4.9 I have an oil pressure gage that always reads the same while cold or hot, 2000 rpm ao idleing. I suspect that it has just a binary switch in it with a fixed value resistor in series with the circuit instead of a variable resistance type sending unit. If they were manufactured like this to fool the customers or what the reason was I would like to purchase a sending unit that gives me some sort of an idea what range my oil pressure is. Does anyone know where I can purchase one of these? I need to know the top and bottom resistance values.
Hi, Here is a link to the instructions on how to convert the factory gauges to work as they should. When I discovered that the oil gauge in my mustang was a fake, it really pissed me off.
It may be easier to put in an aftermarket gauge, but I really didn't have a good place to put it.

gwuister,I tried your suggestion from the attached web address you included in your reply however mine is a bit different. Instead of a 20 ohm resistor mine has a 5 ohm. therefore I would guess that I need a analog sender that has a 0-10 ohm range based on the fact that the gage read about half with the 5 ohm resistor and a binary switch. Anyone know of how to get a part number for one of this range? Anyway, I checked the oil pressure with a mechanical gage and I read 50 PSI at idle speed so, that's pretty good. Any help would be appreciated
