Hello to all, this is my first post, but unfortunately it is under less than great circumstances.
I just had a Flowmaster Super 40 installed on the truck, so I was feeling good and decided to detail the engine. I sprayed a little degreaser, hosed it off and added a nice shinny dressing solution on it.
So I go to started it and now it has a consistent miss all the time. Whether it is in gear, out of gear, driving or idling, it always has a miss.
What would be the best thing to do? If I use a code reader will it tell me what cylinder is missing? How probable is it that a COP fried?
Thanks in advance for your information and patients.
A normal scanner will tell you which cylinder is misfiring only if the misfire sets a code. You might have to drive it quite a while before it will do that.
Most likely you just have water in one of the spark plug holes and that's shorting out the plug or COP. It's some work but if you remove all the COPs and dry them and their holes you'll probably cure the miss.
How many miles on your truck? If it's anywhere close to being due for new spark plugs now might be a good time.

I was worried about using the 40 series but I was told it is what he installs on the majority of the Fords. The 40 sounds very nice and has little resonance inside the cab.
Well, I am thinking the water theory is where the problem lies. Today, the missing had subsided, but came back after a restart.
When the missing comes back it isn't as bad as before. It is more noticeable upon an easy acceleration from a stop.
I am very mechanically incline, but what shop manual would be the best?
Before you reset it you should take the truck and get it scanned to see what code you have so you can figure out what caused the light to come on. Some parts stores will do that for free. The code can also be cleared to turn out the light with the scan tool.
Or you can just disconnect the battery for a few minutes and that will clear it too.
Well, since the start of this post, the truck has now stopped missfiring. I was told if I were to clean the engine again use WD-40 to displace the water under the COP.
I don't want this problem to ocurr again, but I don't want a dirty engine. What does everyone else do to clean their engine?
Ahhh!
Good old Water Displacement attempt Number 40.
Made by good ole folks in San Diego, California who know what good penetrating oil should smell like!
Works great on masking those pesky foul odor's too!
