Looking to get a used ...something. I'm leaning toward a 2001-2003 F250 or F350, or a 2000-2002 Excursion.
First the good things:
40/20/40 seat in pickups
both are big enough for me (6'5")
Now the bad things:
Very few gas engines out there (maybe not a bad thing)
Seems like no benches in Excursion (correct?)
Fewer leather optioned seats in the pickups (that I've seen)
First, would it be a waste to not really use the diesel to it's potential? I'd enjoy the extra mpg from a PSD.
I sat in both vehicles the other day and noticed the pickup felt different than the X somehow. Possibly closer to the dash. Was that just in my head?
Are there major interior differences between the F250 and F350?
Are there canopies out there that allow the removal of the rear window with a rubber gasket in place to keep out the weather? My friend had one of these in the late 80's on his Nissan lowrider . This would give me the stereo fix I need with the pickup. Obviously the X can be filled to the brim without any trouble.
The X does come with the bench, I have the 40/20/40 in my 01 but it was with the cloth interior XLT package, the limited's with leather all had the buckets. I drive my dads 350 alot and I dont really notice the difference in seats. Except his is power and mines not.
It would depend on how much$$$ you'll willing to spend. Most truck with the sliding rear window can have an aftermarket booot place in between the rear window and canopy or shell.
Get the X. I'm a truck lover because I love the functionality of trucks, but it sounds to me like you don't really "need" a truck bed. You stated that you're going to put on a shell with the pass-through window and a rompin'-stompin' stereo system. The X is tailor-made for that! So, you might as well just get the X that way the body is all one-piece and you don't have to HOPE the rubber molding keeps the water out. Plus, it's difficult/impossible to clean between the shell and the truck. With the X it's all one piece and you can clean it, wax it, and make it look super sharp as needed. The gap b/t the truck and a shell just gradually looks worse and worse with time, IMO.
