E$timate?

While replacing the old cover on the differential today, part of a tooth from a spider gear was swimming in the pan. Nice huh? Does anyone have any idea of the way to go insofar as repair, replacment and cost for either. I need to get an opinion on the least costly approach as I just spent a ton on other repairs and plan to invest in body work and paint, so my budget is going to be limited.
As always, thanks.

My brother in law was quoted $1200 to fix a noisy exploder diff. Is it working ok? Noise? Locking up in corners and throwing you into oncoming traffic or a power pole? Maybe you can get a whole new axle at the scrappy....?

My son in law and I are investigating a bone yard axle. He has a 66 Mustang that he has swapped axles on in the past. I havent locked up yet, but I can tell you an entire tooth from one of the spiders was in the pan when we drained it yesterday. I put a new cover on and tried not to make too many turns on the way home. It is not going to move until I have the new (used axle) here. I heard I can get a 90 day guarantee on parts from a local yard. I would really like to open it up and turn the gears first. No sense jumping out of the pan into the fire. Thanks for the reply. Its appreciated. PS....I don't think I would attempt this myself but you guys have inspired me a lot.
