rear end swap

fisrt time I have ever been here. I need too know what rear end will work in a 55 F-100 with a leangth of 53-55 inches with 3.00 to 3.55's I was at the junkyard today I heard that an old bronco rearend would fit. Looking for something that I can just bolt in without to much modification. Any help would be great. I have a 55 F-100 with a 460 and C-6 3 speed volare front clip. I have considered a clip swap and have seen a 73 ford LTD but it was a little wide. Shows in 2 weeks so I need some help.

Hey lab man, welcome to the best spot for these old trucks and the best bunch of folks around.

I think you'll find that a Ford 9" will be your axle of choice, although I'm far from an expert on the subject. Use the forum search function and some words like rear axle swap, or 9" axle. You should find a number of threads that discuss this issue to death, including axle width, brake options, application years, etc.

There is also a tech article on this subject that you should definitely read. Click on the TECH ARTICLES link on the right and then on the transmission/axle section. The article should be right near the top of the list.
