I have a '77 F-250 4x4. It has the original 351-M and NP 435 4-speed tranny and I want to buy a suspension lift for it. I want go really big and I was wondering if anyone knows how big of a kit I can get and who makes it? I have a set of 44's and I want to make them fit very nicely. So what is the biggest kit I can get for my truck?
You're going to be pretty limited on options. I know Skyjacker makes a 4" kit and I think Rough Country or someone else might do a 6" kit. In order to fit 44's you're either going to have to have a spring shop custom make a kit for you or do some custom fab work to build new hangers.
To go with 44's you are going to have to do more than just a suspention lift. I would start with a 6" suspention lift, if that is as much as you can get with out going custom. Then a 3" or 4" body lift. I did 3" suspention, and 3" body on my bronco. It helped with weight distribution.Buy the way, I 'm running 36's with plenty of room. But I will admit, tight turns in parking lots, they rub on the radius arms.
Personally I hate body lifts. They don't give your frame any more ground clearance, don't increase articulation or performance and I think they look ghetto, but that's just me. 3" is about the max you want to go for a bodylift (many states have laws limiting this) so even if you do 3" body lift and 4" suspension you're not going to be getting 44's on there to the point where you can do anything but drive straight. Do some research on the shackle flip and contact local spring companies to see what you can come up with. If you don't have a spring manufacturer close by do a search for National Spring Co on the net. They can build them to any specs you choose.
