I have a question about the idle controller since I do live in the norhteast. My 04, if it idles for a period of time will raise the idle to about 1000 rpm and then decrease as the coolant temp goes up. Is this ok or should I get the idle controller, if there is something else available. In the winter months the truck does idle more than the summer months. If there is a part available how much is it and is it only available through FORD. Does anyone have this controller and what does it do exactly. I have been rading in the tech folder but I have not really found answers to my questions
In regards to "if" you should add something, that all depends on how long you let the truck idle and how often. Wet stacking is a real issue for those who leave a diesel idle for long periods (30 min. for me is long) and often (a few times a week). In regards to "how", the info is in the tech folder under the thread "Engine Idle Control". I wrote the procedure for the 03's and 04's so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Just read the whole thread and it will explain the "why" and "how" very well. If you WANT to spend more money you can buy an Auxiliary Idle Controller from your dealer that plugs in and allows you to set different RPM's. If you just want to speed up the engine to warm up faster when cold and provide cooler A/C ouput when hot, then the toggle switch will do just that quite well. Good luck and have fun. Mat
3 days ago i bought a 2005 f250 powerstroke 6.0 diesel.... and wen my dad got in it to make sure it was the right truck for me he noticed after it idles for a few minutes the idle kicks up just as u deccrided it is suposed to do the, he said its becauseits not good for a powerstroke to sit at te same idle speed, all u should have to do to make it return to natural idle is tap the brake. lemme kno how it turns out
That is a normal program through the PCM. When the PCM sees the proper coolant temp on my truck it will drop back to 650rpm. Sometimes my truck idles longer than that so I am going to try the toggle switch procedure in the tech folder.
