Motor swap question

I just recieved a 1985 F-350 dually 2wd w/ a 460 4spd manual tranny from my step-brother for free just cause he wanted it out of his yard. I figured I try to get it running. Well, It did for a little bit then something snapped and is now banging around in the lower end some where. So, I need to replaced the motor... If I can't find another 460 what else will bolt up to that tranny?
Thanks for all your help!

Sounds like a rod, why dont you just pull it and rebuild it?

I THINK 385 and 335 series have the same bellhousing, anyone wanna step in and verify that one ?

I would have no problem pulling motors, but engine internals I do not know much about. I can do almost anything else but tearing an engine apart scares me.. LOL

460's arent rare or anything so I cant imagine not being able to find one, in the long run fixing yours or swapping in a new 460 is going to be the cheapest most trouble free route. I suppose a 351/400m would bolt up but the little things are going to nickle and dime you to death. Get a re-man long block and stuff a junk yard rod and piston or whatever in your old one so your core is "good" then at least all the pulleys and hoses and wires will bolt right up. Good luck
