300 I6 -> 354 Perkins Diesel. Anyone actually DONE this one?
1) Ford put 240/300CID 6's in their 6000 series farm tractors.
2) Ford also offered these tractors with the 354D Perkins engines.
3) I have HEARD that a Perkins will buckle up in place of the 300, with just motor mount fab'ing to do.
Has anyone done this, or is it just redneck/urban legend? (Spoken as a true redneck now living in the 'burbs) Having run perkins diesels in MF and Ford tractors all my life, I'm thinking this would be a SWEET rig.
354D stats.
3.8" bore x 5" Stroke
120hp at 2100
260 ft/lb at 1450
The hp is right there with the mid-'70's smog sixes, and the torque is about the same 600rpm lower than the 300's.
I have a line on a Perkins for less than US3000 right now, and am beginning to twitch a bit. 8)

You can purchase a Cummins 4BT 3.9 for about the same price and it will make a much friendlier swap than the Perkins. They come factory with 70-130 hp
and you can crank them up over 200 hp with ease. All the accesories that fit the Cummins 6BT 5.9 in the Dodge pickups will fit the 4BT including trans and flywheel. These little 4 bangers are found in Frito Lay step vans they get excellent fuel mileage last forever and are tourque making monsters.
