Wheelbase is different on the short box, frame is different, midship gas tank is 19 gal. for long bed and 17 gal. for short bed. There would be an incredible amount of work to get it done, cutting and piecing the frame, new tank in center, etc. Is it worth it? You could probably trade trucks more easily.

The important factor here is that the extra foot on a long bed is between the Wheels and the cab, not between the wheels and the bumper.
