Ok, I have searched the forum and havn't found what I'm looking for. When I start my 99' expy in the morning it sounds like a piston slapping around in there or a rod knocking for about 30 seconds. I can only get it to do this in the mornig after it has been sitting all night. I have had it started while I was under the hood to rule out any loose accesories. So I am kind of baffeled? Any help would be great.
PS. Is there a spell check on this thing? ( I don't speel to good.)
Simple things first---I had this problem on a Grand Marquis- cause was cheapo oil filter that had no silicone antidrain back valve---caused rattling sound on start up for a few seconds til oil pressure built. Not thirty seconds but if you aren't using MotorCraft filter or high end Fram or something like that---give it a try before you start thinking it may be something much more serious.
there has been tons of thread on this...they all do it. I use Mobil1 with Mobil1 filter, with a Lucas additive and it still has always done it for me...its normal on the triton V8.
Regarding piston slap - In the cold my Subaru knocks / piston slap. Dealer said they (Subaru's) all do and not to worry. Loose fit was preferred over tight fit.
Regarding cold start noises in an Expy - My 99 was making noises till it warmed up. Dealer found nothing but changed the serpentine belt and problem solved. Not sure any of this helps you.
