A company spokesman said the explosion and fire occurred in, and was confined to, an isomerization unit. Isomerization units are used increase gasoline octane ratings and typically are located downstream from fluid catalytic crackers in the refining process.</TD></TR><TR><TD class=mwinside-copy>
"The news spread like wildfire across the trading floor near the end of the Nymex session ..." said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service. "Preliminary reports indicate that it could knock out some high-octane production as well as diesel."</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
