Question 4.0 rebuild, mods?

ok, ive decided to have my 4.0 rebuilt. and I am wondering, while its out, if I could change out anything in the motor to give me more power to pull. i pull a small 3200 pound trailer, and the aero does great, but I wondered if I could get a different cam, or anything to give me more torque, or HP?

lemme know whats out there! while its out of the aero, i better put in it what i want, cuz it aint coming out again!

Not trying to sound too obvious but replacing the factory air box with a new air intake is a start the factory design limits airflow.

Aside from the obvious turbocharger or supercharger theory if you changed the cam out you would need a engine programmer to let the computer know of the new cam and if I'm not mistaken the ford PCM doesn't have flash memory so settings can't be saved unless you install an aftermarket chip.

Good lord if you have it apart anyways DO A CAM. Mainly since it's such a PITA to put one in while the engine's in the car. There are few single mods (other than forced induction) that can change your engine like a camshaft swap. If you go mild, you probably would be okay with a stock computer.

Shave the heads, Port and polish Intake, Exhaust. Polished Valves and hardened guides.

Ceramic coated piston crowns. Forged rods, Upgraded oil pump. Match intake to heads. Bigger TB intake.

I would change the cam. Check with camcraft cams and ask their recomendation. Then I would gasket match port both the intake and exhaust ports and do the same with the lower intake manifold. Then gasket match port the upper intake to the lower intake. I would also do a mild pocket port on the heads. If you know a good machine shop maybe have them put in larger valves before you do the porting. There is also a company that makes heads for the 4.0 that are supposed to flow better and not crack. You should be able to find the company name on rangerpowersports.com. I would not shave your heads unless you like to pay for premium gas, it will raise your compression ratio and probably ping on 87. Now I would get a set of headders and get a muffler shop install a good custom exhaust with a high flow cat. Make it a single exhaust of either 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inch tubing , no bigger. You might want to go to bigger injectors, throtle body and MAF. I would go to Accel injectors if you repace yours which after all this time you should.
