How many people have bought or are considering truck dingey to protect themselves form the high fuel prices? I just purchased a 1998 Ford Escort 4dr. 5speed to supplement my 2004 F150. The Escort’s EPA mileage is 38 mpg highway. I have gotten about 33-35 mpg. Before my two F-150’s I was a long time import car fan. I just cannot get back into the Fast and the Furious scene anymore so I bought a Grandma car.
Anyone riding motorcycles to save gas? My last two (1991 Honda Nighthawk 750 & 2001 Kawasaki ZX6E) only got about 38-40 mpg. Here in the Mid-Atlantic states riding year round can be uncomfortable. Sure wish I lived in the southwest or west coast. My dingey of choice would be a red white and blue Kawasaki ZRX1200 (2002? MY?)
I would like to get a 2.3L 5 spd 4x4 Ranger super/extended cab thing, I do not think they offer them that way any more.
In reality, my 1995 AWD Aerostar van gets better mpg (18+) then most of the newer small cars and mini-vans on the market including the 4.0 Ranger/Mazda B series and a lot more then the 11 mpg my 1982 Chevy gets.
So, I think I will get around repairing the van. I have no desire to put myself or family in an econo box since the best selling vehicle is a 4,400+ (?) pound Ford F-150 which means the odds of getting hit by one is much higher then getting hit by another Honda or Escort.
I have a 94 escort 5 sp. When we bought the new taurus in 04 they only offered $1,000 trade in so we kept it. It only had 52,000 mi., but I guess resale is low for a 10 yr old stick shift. It fills in for the awd aerostar, but even without the milage advantage I'm glad i kept it. It's not the quickest car in the world but quick enough, and handles better than those 70's sports cars everyone gets excited over. It's a pleasant change from the truck-like aerostar.
