aftermarket tach install

In a week I am picking up a new toy, '83 F-150 shortbox. It's got F-250 springs and a bodylift, a 300 6 cylinder, 4 speed manual, 4x4 with a limited-slip 9 inch and 3:73's.

Alright, now for the question, I have an aftermarket tack I want to install and wonder if I can splice the wires from the tach into the wires that are suppose to be there already for a factory tach. I figure this will be easier and less obtrusive than running all new wires because it won't be premanent to the truck. So there are 4 wires; red, black, white, and green for the tach. the red should be connect to lighting, black is ground, green goes to coil, and white is hot from fuse panel, is that right? and which of these would then splice into the wires that are there for the factory tach

eventually this truck will be rebuilt from the ground up a little at a time. I have a perfect '87 reg. cab and full interior going into it. it will have a custom wire harness and full autometer gauges which is why i want this to be as easy as possible.
