Another Vibration Story
Vehicle = '04 SCrew, 5.4L, 4x4
Delivery Date: 11/18/04
Vibration/shudder first appeared intermittently at around 3,500 kilometers (~2200 miles) then become progressively more regular; symptoms as most have encountered - occuring highway speed through entire vehicle, essentially have to pull over and stop.
- Booked for 1st service and vibration issue for February 14th, noting my searches on this site. Dealer had for 3-1/2 days (4 1-/2 in total if allow 1 day for service) and outcome was 2 tires replaced for failing roadforce;
- Wasn't too optimistic on this 'fix' myself...seems like easy place to start - tires are cheap;
- Approximately 2 weeks later vibration/shudder is back;
- Booked back in to dealer for March 14th, again emphasising information from this site re: driveshaft, etc
- After 3 days dealer advised that all four tires were out of balance (supposedly a 'glitch' in their balancer from the first service). Re-balanced but dealer notice vibration in driveline...various checks including rotating 180 degrees (vibration worse according to tech's notes), ordered new driveshaft.
- Picked up the vehicle today, March 23rd in morning and drove to work - no problems but on way home did encounter vibration once at speed of approximately 70km/hour. Will do some further road test and see but doesn't appear fixed.
- Guess time to start trying to escalate problem.
From reading posts it appears this problem is mainly, and maybe solely, affecting Super Crews; would seem a starting point for Ford to investigate.
So far, not thinking too much of Ford's "all-out commitment to rethink truck" (Ford Canada's website). But for time being will give them benefit of doubt of their commitment to fix the problem. Beyond this problem, when the truck works absolutely love it...just this glaring problem at moment.
