diesel upgrades

Just wondering about using a chip upgrade to boost the power of my 7.3 and I was curious if there was any danger of damage to the motor and if some members have tried it with out any problems

Get gauges and upgraded exhaust first. Main concern would be the transmission.

Anything you do to your vehicle can cause problems if you don't respect it. I have a chip (with gauges) and have had no problems. Everyone will chime in and say gauges is the first mod you need to do! If you don't monitor what your engine is doing a chip is disaster in the making.

AGREED, get the guages and get some baseline readings so you know where you started even before you upgrade the exhaust, intake, or put in a chip/programmer. There are also some cheap ways to help the tranny like a sonnax/tricumulator kit which firms up shifts to reduce slippage.

Yeah, it'd definitely be a great investment to get gauges (pyrometer, transmission temperature, and boost gauge) and if you don't think they are really necessary just think of the money you'll save if they prevent one transmission rebuild...

I look at my gauges constantly and I have my Predator set on 100hp. I'm crusing at 85mph on flat ground and the egt is at 600 with no boost, then as soon as I hit the grade and give it more gas, I can hear the turbo spool up and the egts are already at 900. Then you back off the throttle. When you get your chip, you will practically be driving off the egt readings.
