Second-generation Probe seems to be more reliable than the first, especially '95-'97. The GT is a blast to drive, one of the best all-around performance cars to be offered by Detroit. BUT: like 924x2150 stated, parts can be tough to find and are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. The parts prices reduces this car to a Sunday playtoy, not something you want to rely on for day-to-day transportation. Although they rarely break down, the cost of maintaining a Probe can eat you alive.

I agree with you, 924x2150, but that wasn't what I was trying to make a point about.

Obvisouly, the more un-popular the car, the more difficulty in finding parts, the more expensive to repair, etc etc....any car in that catagory is going to have the same problem. I would of thought that as being common sense to a car buyer.

It's hard to sit and discuss how good/bad a car is....bottom line.

My step-father had a probe GT and he seemed to like it quite a bit. He had leased it so i'm guessing the maintenance and repairs weren't really too much of an issue as it had regular maintenance at the Ford dealership.

He liked that it was a small, nimble sporty car. But his next car was a 97 M3 and he quickly forgot about the probe.

My sister-in-law had a Probe. She bought it brand new in 1995 and loved it for about 3 years. Then, it started giving her all kinds of problems. She traded it in on a new 1999 Dodge Durango. The Durango served her & my brother well for 4 years. But, then it started falling apart. So what did they get then? What else but an Excursion!!

Thought so. I am still looking and pretty much have made up my mind that that is what I am going to get. If the engine looks clean and doesn't show any bad seepage I will probably run Valvoline Durablend or full synthetic in the engine. I know I am going to want to pump up the sound system in it and that sucks because I still haven't got my pickup's system where I want it among other things.

I had a 1995 Probe SE with the 4 banger and Auto. It was an excellent vehicle...Never had any problems. I think it all depends on the care of the vehicle and driving style. I new several people that had GT's...and loved them. Great handling and very quick.

I believe the Probe's last year was 1997. This was done because a lot (and I mean millions) of Mustang loyalists tried to convince FORD not to stop the Mustang. Of course they won that battle, but sealed the fate for the Probe.

If you find a GOOD one, then go for it!

I think by now we can all agree that it was a good decision to keep the Mustang around...

It may or may not have been a good idea to drop the probe...beats me.

Annililator, did you ever get to the Probe forums? What kind of Probe has your interest? i.e. give us the full description of the car.

Just basically a later (94 to 97 mainly) GT, color wouldn't really matter as long as it isn't something ugly, preferably with a 5-speed. No specific car in general yet though.
