Why does our trucks need a trac bar? the rear axle doesnt need one, but the front does. is it because the front axle sees more lateral forces, or something of that nature.

Yup thats where the steering wheels are. It also helps with other steering issue's. Bump steer etc.

Correct...., and on most race cars, they run one on the rear, more commonly referred to as a panhard bar.
It eliminates any side to side movement.
