wrecked my door

My door swung open and hit a tree while i was in reverse. It pinched on the hinge end and dented where it contacted the tree, by the lock.
The door still shuts locks, every thing but look good. I want to fix it by pulling it off trying to bend out the pinch, then go at it with body filler. I am planning on painting the entire truck with durabak this summer. I have no experience with body work but i do alot of drywall work.
any tips or how to's would be appreciated.

When using body filler, remember two things: (1) Be sure the metal is clean of all paint, grime, and grease before applying. I usually use my 4 inch grinder to get a clean, rough finish. (2) Do not apply it over a quarter inch thick. Pound or pull the dent out until a quarter inch will do it. Most complaints you hear about body filler cracking can be traced to the failure to follow these two steps. Always use a block when sanding...the longer the better on flat panels. Machines can be used to start, but do the finish work by hand. Small imperfections (and there will be some) can be remedied with a high-build primer. If necessary add another thin coat of filler and sand again. Most anyone can produce a good looking repair. If you have to do it over a couple of times, who cares? It is fun to do...at least it is for me...and you'll save a ton of money.
