I will be replacing the front upper and lower ball joints on my 2000 Ford F250 super duty 7.3 diesel 4x4. I have manuals and have looked through the removal and installation instructions. There are several special tools listed as required. One in particular for removing the tie rod end from the wheel knuckle. Does anyone know if I have to have this tool, where to get it at a good price, or if I can substitute something else? Any other help on this would be appreciated.
the ball joint tool is like a big fork, napa about $30.
the ball joint press and fork you can usually borrow at autozone if there around ya. the ball joint press is just a modified 10" c clamp. the wheel bearing socket napa will have also. i paid $40 for mine off the snapon truck so im sure it would be less there. lots of pb blaster keep coating that stuff everyday till your ready to dive into them. must have a ton of miles if your doing ball joints. the ones on my 97 w/ 180k are still doing great. im doing them on the D60 that im putting in it though cause it came out of a truck with a dash fire. and there easier to do on the bench.
