Would it be okay for the truck (2004 PSD) to remove the exhaust resonator? I have had the muffler replaced with a straightpipe for about 6 months and it sounds much better but it is too quiet.
Will it be too loud by removing the resonator? Is there any downside to doing it? Is there any HP gained?
Your question "will it be too loud?" is subjective. It depends on an individual opinion.
In my opinion, "yes", but I like a low "authoritative" rumble similar to stock Mustang exhaust, etc.
The resonator is supposed to get rid of the annoying whistle. The later models have software changes to the variable vanes in the turbo to minimize this and thus the resonator is not on my 05.
Does the 2004 PSD have a catalitic converter? I have never looked as I assumed it would not being a diesel.
I have read that it is "okay" to remove the cat... but is there any downside to removing the cat... any at all?
I want to make the truck louder and have contemplated removeing the resonator, at least thats what I think it is. Then again I have read here that removeing the cat may do the trick for me.
If it were me I would un-bolt all your factory exhaust and replace it with a system. That way if you ever majorly tear your truck up, you can put the stock converter and downpipe back on and there won't be any warranty issues when you take it in.
