?? X or H pipe ??

From what I read, it seems that an X or H pipe will make an exhaust system more efficient than just 2 pipes straight out the back. Will a 2 in 2 out muffler have the same pressure equalizing effect?

Thanks

?? X or H pipe ??

I read this last year in Hot Rod magazine. They did a test with both H and X pipe configurations on a single car. Then they ran a dyno. The X pipe gave better performance. I forgot what they said about how to choose the spots for the 4 out of 5 welds(1 in the middle of the X). On an H pipe one trick is to use some heat resistant paint(not the really high temp stuff like for headers, just the middle temp stuff) and paint the pipes for a fair distance just as they start to run along the bottom of the truck and before they get to the Cat or muffler. Drive the truck around and there should be some points where the paint burns, ie these are the hot spots and the places where you want to put your H pipe. I don't know if this works for an X pipe. You would need to look up the magazine article or find a shop that understands the difference.

The H pipe is an old racer trick, at least 20 years. I think the X pipe is relatively new and is usually better but costs more to do.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to both of you! My truck is an '86 5.0 and I have taken all the stock pipes off. I have 2 pipes running into 2 turbo mufflers (with no cats). Does anyone know anything about a 2 in 2 out muffler? I have seen them on the Bassani and the CGS Motorsports site. Is there any benefit to one of these mufflers vs 2 single inlet/outlet?

Thanks
