I posted a query on the general board. Just got on tonight and jumped before reading a lot. My F250 failed a provincial government inspection today because the ball joints movement was 31/1000 (0.031). Is this reasonable? Are the specs really that rigid?? Or is someone being too picky?? What do ya think?
I agree with Franklin2. One thing to check though, make sure that it is the balljoints and not something like a loose bearing or something. I failed inspection one time for balljoints and all it needed was the spindle nut on the right front bearing to be tightened (tweeked) a little bit. Good luck.
Thanks for info about Ball Joints. Got new ones in yesterday and found a faulty universal also - changed them both. Had a new windshield put in also - it failed the exam. The VIN was covered by the black strip. Windshield guy was very unhappy - but he got the right one in and re-replaced it. Back to the inspection again tomorrow. Would you believe that my truck failed inspection because it also had a crack in the headlight - both high and low beam work - rather picky.
Canadian Provinces have very intense safety inspections , But the mechanics have to go by the guidlines otherwise they would be held liable . There are some Us states that have no safety inspections & believe me if you could see some of the vehicles on the road , at least here in Tn , they wouldnt even qualify as a place for chickens to roost . You had a little play in the ball joints on your truck , sooner or later they would have to be replaced , you just had to take the sooner option .
