Alrighty, I have a new problem that popped up yesterday. (It seems when you get one thing fixed..) I went to make a right turn and lifted the handle to turn on the blinker and it won't stay in position. The signal works, but I have to hold the handle in position to keep it on. BTW the left signal doesn't seem to be affected.
You'll have to remove the steering wheel. When you do you can see how the blinker setup works, it's sort of like a cam and gear setup, a plastic thing. Sometimes they crack or get pushed out of position. If it got pushed out you might be able to push it back, but more likely it broke. They sell the replacement part in the Help! section of most auto parts stores, or you can get one from a boneyard or the dealer.
that must be alittle design flaw on fords part cuz my bronco is starting to do the same thing, right turn only, it still stays in position but it dos'ent click there like it should, I did some checking around and it seems like you can get the part pretty much anywhere like Jbronco stated, it's those little things that drive me nuts so it's on my growing list of things to do...
Do me a favor - DO NOT buy the cheapo replacement in the Help! section. Those are crap. you will only be wasting your time....
I had the same problem on my 84... I bought the cheapo replacement Help! section and it didn't work... Stupidily I bought two more... I eventually wound up taking the Factory Ford turn signal cam out of my 86 beater Bronco. It worked perfectly. Unfortunately Ford only sells the whole turn signal switch, not just the cam.
I would recommend going to a junkyard and taking a turn signal cam out of a truck there... I am sure there are plenty of F-series / Broncos there... it is quite easy as long as you have a steering wheel puller..
I tried replacing the cam also with no luck. I was able to get a new switch at the local NAPA, they even had it on stock. Try them along with the dealer, they may be a little cheaper.
I purchased the whole assembly from Autozone for 42.00. They had it in stock and it worked great. The good part about getting the whole assembly is that you also get new spring loaded contacts for your steering wheel controls, mine were almost completely worn out.
