Emergency Brake Light

The emergency brake light on our '90 Chevy Beauville fullsize 3/4 van is staying on. The emergency cable is fully released and the master cylinder is full. Do you guys know whats causing this?

Check your owner's manual but many (most, all?) 'emergency brake' lights serve dual function. If your e-brake is fully retracted then your normal service brakes have failed and you shouldn't be driving that vehicle again until you get it fixed.

In ranch trucks and other such beater vehicles we refer to these as "christmas lights" because when a vehicle gets a little long in the tooth lights sometimes come on for no reason. Definitely get your brakes checked out, but if that all checks out ok just grin and bear it or put a piece of electrical tape over the offending beacon!

It's a $3 switch or a $2 piece of wire 9 times out of then that needs replaced. Fix it right the first time. In the state of Ohio it is a FELON to sell a vehilce with no brakes, or a faulty brake light.

We took it to the local mechanic and he looked it over, said everything was fine. He did something and the light went out. Now the light has come back on. I know on some vehicles the light will go on when brake fluid is low but the cylinder is full. The brakes are working absolutly fine.
