Yes it is very possible. The only welding that should be necesary would be exhuast. It should be a bolt out/in swap, with the right parts of course. You should search the inline six forum, lots of info on swapping the I6 out there. Also check the engine swap forum.
Hehe, you have to know what engine first before you start planning a swap The 5.0 and 5.8 will swap in without haveing to change trannies ("small" block pattern). Anyone in the Inline Six forum would recomend a 7.5 swap, but would reguire a tranny swap as well. As they put it, "a 5.0 is a step down, a 5.8 is a quarter step up, only a 7.5 is really a next step up engine". I wouldn't waste my time doing a swap unless it was to drop a 7.5 in there. But you may be able to buy a new truck with the engine you want for what the swap could cost You should really check out the Inline Six forum, tons of info on engine swaps, and building some power out of your 6. Why do you want a V8 anyways?

If it was mine I'd keep the 300, I have a 95 with that engine. The 302 is a step down and the 351w is 1/4 step up. Is there some reason that you wanna swap it out? What gears are you running now? If you have 3.08 you can get a very good performance boost if you swap it for some 3.55's and gain some mpg to boot. You can build the 300 up for fairly reasonable ammount of money. But if you do have your heart set on it get a 351w. You'd need the mounts, engine harness, computer and whatever else you would need, if it's an automatic the transmission would stay the same as the 300 has the small block bolt pattern, but if you have a mazda tranny it won't hold up to the power of the 351w thus they never offered that combination together. If you have a manual you would have to get a zf tranny or convert to automatic. It can be a lot more involved than what you think and I can't justify yanking the 300 out for all that work.
Steve "The Man" is right - it's not worth it unless you go REALLY big, or you have some modification plans for a 302/351 (intake, cam, pistons, etc) that aren't feasible on a six. Although you can do all those things on a six, it might end up costing more in the long run. I don't know that much about building up a six, though, check out that forum for more info.
Since you have an I6 which has the small block ford bell housing pattern, swapping in a 302 or a 351W would be easy - the trucks came that way from the factory, so junkyard parts and new parts are easily obtained for this swap.
I'm not an I6 fan, though it is a decent motor. The 302 (5.0L) I'd pass on even stroked, they aren't the best motor Ford has made over the years though they did shove them in anything so they are cheap and available used.
The 351W is probably the smallest engine I'd put any effort into swapping from waht you have, because it will produce enough power to make it worth while.
Your best bet would be to find a rollover or other wrecked vehicle (somehting sparing the front) that has what you need and go from there. You'll end up frustrated and have spent wayyy more money than necesary trying to peice it together from junkyards. Trust me I'm speaking from experience
