Rear end help
I'm attempting to line up parts to update my 65 2wd swb and am concerned about the gearing in the current rear end. I'm swapping out the original staight 6 (300) with 4 speed on the floor to a 390 with c6. Truck has 3.73 in it but as you know it winds pretty good at 50 mph plus. The donor 66 I 'm pulling the v8 and trans out of has 3.54 rear end but I don't know if this is much of an upgrade. This truck will be a driver for the old man -definitely not a work truck. Any suggestions on ratio and where to find it? On a side note, whats the straght 6 worth- rebuilt about 10,000 mi and runs like a top? Any help appreciated.

Typically with a Cruise O Matic ford installed a 3.25 gear 3.50 may be a little high.
The Fe can pull a 3.00 no problem with a C6. the 300 used those 3.70s for torque advantage
On the 300 ask for 500 and see what happens, that seems to be the average price for a running 300.

OPD, I was running 2.75 behind my stout FE, but changed to 3.00 because when towing my loaded 18 ft car hauler, it dogged it. The 3.00 seems to handle the trailer with a truck on board much better. When I get my towing truck built the 2.75 will go back in.
