Gotta wonder about a lot of people's "customizations" anymore. I've got a couple old Fords, 84 F150 4x4 short stepside, 79 F250 4x4, 68 Merc Crewcab, 67 F100 shortbed...just all "rolling restorations", work on them when I can, but all have hours of blood, sweat, and determination rolled into them. All just a step away from the junkyard when I got them (hence the name Last chance). I was out today getting gas with the Mercury and a guy walked over and laughed that it had Mercury spelled across the hood (the factory metal letters) and remarked that looked kind of funny, but he like it. Never heard of a Merc truck, but showed little interest when I said it was factory. Looked it over, and wanted to show me his truck he was "fixing up". Looked like a brand new F250. Apparently made a stop somewhere along the line and had someone bolt on a set of aftermarket wheels and off road tires. Popped open the hood to proudly show me his bolt on air filter kit. Big vinyl sticker across the hood that read "Fear This"...guess I'll also have to fear the other thousands of F250s Ford made that year as well. Went on to tell me he was going to get a chip for it, and get different exhaust for it as well. A shiver went up my spine as I looked to the car next to him...a Honda, aftermarket wheels and tires, fart muffler, vinyl stickers, surely a cold air intake...
...From reading the posts on here I'm sure I'm not alone, but are we a dying breed? Does working on your truck mean working your credit card? Maybe I am behind the times. Maybe I should invest in some vinyl lettering. Fear This? Nah. Maybe "blow your horn if you see something ready to fall off"...
Hell yes. Too many times I see some guy(or girl) prouder than heck that he has a k&n filter and can shell out the bucks for someone to do he work for him, and buy some bigger tires. i'm still lookin for people in my area that are a part of our 'dying breed'. but that just makes me prouder to be what i am
I'm with ya. I can't stand it when I see someone put a K&N filter and new big buck wheels and tires on their vehicle and now all of a sudden its supposed to be a road racer when really they may have picked up a tenth in the quarter if they are lucky. K&N's are worth the money if you ask me and aftermarket wheels and tires can make ones vehicle look better if chosen properly but that's about it. No reason for the "Fear Me" stickers on the windshield. The coffee can mufflers have to stop. Weed eaters have never been pleasing to ones ears so why all of a sudden do people feel their cars need to sound like them.
Just go to your local Ford dealer, or better yet a Chevy dealer, get a bunch of performance stickers, Corvette is probably the best and put them on your truck. Be sure that it looks "factory". Add some chrome side panels to your doors. Maybe get yourself about 20 of those itty bitty blue driving(Racing actually, but gotta be PC ya know), then get a big honking exhaust tip, one of those "turbine" kinds with the fins inside works really good.
When you have all this stuff on your truck, everyone will know, you be da man.
I really love Honda Civics with 427 stickers on the fenders. I shy away from them, in fear.
More seriously, it is sad that too many people build their rides with their wallets. I am on a Chevy list and guys there think nothing of coughing up $8,000 to $30,000 on their car that cost only $25,000 new. I am always amazed.
Whatever happened to the shadetree mechanic. I have built a few engines in my time, and other than go fast parts, and a plentiful supply of stickers, I did all the work myself and my blood was the first lubricant inside the engine.
Oh well, some guys still do good work, some spend big bucks and others just wanna look like they can go fast, takes all kinds I guess. brrrrap, brrrraaaap, brrrap.
Good Luck, buy stickers, it's more cost effective.
I live in NJ and we have ricers EVERYWHERE. They all have their Rims, stickers, strobe lights, fart mufflers, etc. Alot of them post websites for their car on their rear window (If I can remember them I enjoy logging on for a laugh). I guess these days ricers are a dime a dozen around here... so I guess its kinda unique for us to be around. I have never paid a mechanic to touch my truck and I'm pretty proud of that. My wallet is even happier! I never let them intiminate me and I always laugh when I see a ricer go by with their mufflers and their big wings. I'll take my ford anyday over one of those "things" they drive. Want amusement? go to www.beaterz.com Its a site that makes fun of ricers!
I find it's alot of fun to go out of your way to make them notice you laughing at their "ride"! Or better yet when they're at a gas station with the hood up trying to be noticed go over and have a look at the rusty Ranchero parked beside them.

i agree with y'all im sick and tired of these stupid teenage go fast crap cars. my buddy bought a toyota mr2. that pos only has 3/4 of an inch of clearance and with his little 1.6l engine, it pumps out a wopping 114hp! WOW! big *****. K&n, loud speakers, sticksers, low cars with body and ground fx kits means FA to me. and i HATE those mufflers on those damn ricers. loud and they serve no purpose except to **** everyone off. If your poud of your car, good for you. im proud of my 78 ford, but i don't go doing peel outs and racing and stupid crap like that. i don't need to prove to the world im a moron.
that's just my 2 cents

I am fortunate enough not to be around those people. But when I was elsewhere the big thing was lowered cars with the waayyy too wide tires. I actually felt sorry for some of those clowns. A lot of them had bought a $1000 car that they lowered and then installed the funny little tires. They had more in modifications than in the car! And for what? No performance gain. A horrible ride. Guarenteed destruction of a wheel when it hit a pot hole, etc. But they thought it looked cool.

When I talk to friends about something wrong with my truck the first thing out of their mouth is " where you taking it to, ot get fixed".. I have an always come back with... No one and I mean no one works on my truck but me.. Well, if you are worthy enough you can help me work on my truck. But, all in all if I took my truck to a shop I don't think they would have the slightest idea how to work on it.. LOL Just to add my 2 cents... Dont you hate it when some of these people we are talking about buy a 4 wheel drive blazer or bronco and the first thng they do is slam it to the ground... ?? Whats the point of that.. ?? I could never understand that logic...
