I own a '93 f-150 4x4 with a 351w. some time ago my cruise went out about the same time i installed an aftermarket tach. I've heard of some talk about clocksprings and i'm not sure what they are or what they look like. my truck does not have airbags, so i have no airbag light, and my horn works!! Please help.

The "clockspring" is the assembly that houses a long ribbon cable that makes all of the connections between the electronics in the steering wheel and the stationary part of the column. It is located behind the steering wheel. As the wheel is turned back and fourth, the cable gets wound and unwound. Much like a clockspring! I had one replaced in my Aerostar when the horn and cruise control crapped out. It fixed the problem but I couldn't see anything wrong with the old one. They must develop tiny breaks with fatigue. I think Ford may have used another method for this connection on pre-airbag stuff.
No air bag no clockspring. You have what is called a slipring. Does not usually cause any problems with cruise operation. You really need to find a test chart and located the problem rather than guess. Common areas to look at are vacuum lines, linkage, brake switch, switches in wheel, control module, servo.
