the older bug sheilds did keep bugs off your windsheild but the new ones are just to short to be affective but they don't affect gas milage like the old ones do either
One vehicle I had suffered terribly from road spray and bug splatters. Driving it in nasty weather required gallons of windshield cleaner and running the wipers constantly. Putting on a bug shield reduced the road spray problem dramatically and it reduced the bug splatter problem but did not eliminate it. The lighter bugs were deflected but the big fat juicy ones came straight in. The elimination of the lighter bugs did help tho. I have two Explorers and one has a bug shield. The windshield does stay cleaner on the one with the bug shield. My Ranger also has a bug shield but it was on the vehicle when I bought it so I can not attest to it's effectiveness.
Any input on the new stainless steel bug deflectors,I think the look awsome---they should for the price though!
i put one on an 03 or 04 can't remember what year superduty black in color. it looked good before i put it on, after i got it on it looked very tacky and the owner wanted it off, i believe he may of also wanted it off because of the price also, but the owner of the truck my boss an i thought it looked tacky, may have looked better if the truck was red.
I put one on my wifes exped its a lund and it does okay not 100%
though, but what it does do is help deflect road junk off your hood
thus saving the paint. and it mounts using existing holes in the
hood.Ive also had to replace one that got shattered from a rock, which for sure would've seriously damaged the hood. So i recommend lund they seem to me to look better than other makes.
When i took the bugshield off my 86 (big ole huge bug damn more like it) it really made a big difference in the amount of bugs i collect. I get so many more now its unbelievable. But i had to get rid of it, it looked like an old man truck with it on. Looks like those old men you see with trucker hats and no bend in the bill. That what that bugsheild reminded me of.
My experience parallels that of Torque1st. Funny thing is that since I put it on I have to slow down to ~30 or less before I can wash my windshield, otherwise the air turbulance throws the washer spray everywhere!
Clyde, being original, is pretty well chipped up on the leading edge of the hood. I added the shield to keep it from getting worse and disguise the chips a little. Had to order in a clear one ... didn't want smoke, way too common! Wish it didn't trap leaves, seeds, etc. but I live with it.
