I am going to paint a cattle trailer. I plan on sandblasting it and then spray it with epoxy to seal it. I figured it is not worth the time of wet sanding and cost to spray 2K over the epoxy. My question is, can I lay the top coat down over the epoxy without any trouble? Will the sandblasting marks be too noticible? If they are and I spray it with 2K as well, do you have to wetsand 2K before applying the top coat?
You can apply your top coat without sanding as long as your still within the re-coat time window in your epoxy product sheets. I have applied s/s urathane over epoxy, without 2k, on my inner fenders and it turned out very good, but it really depends on how rough the sand blaster left your sheet metal. Mine was a home 40# pressure system and it did very little damage to my metal.
If your elect to go with 2K, just be sure to apply it within the same re-coat window and if it goes on wet enough, you shouldn't have to sand. If your outside the re-coat window, you will need to scuff the primer with an appropriate scotch brite pad.
