i just got an 85 f250 with a 460 the other day...and it has severe over fueling problems..
i'm not really good with carbs....it has a holley on it....but the dude who owned it b4 put on an electronic fuel pump...mounted on the inner fender well...is it overfuelling cause of the pump or the adjustment on the carb?
is there any kind of fuel pressure regulator on that motor, if not then that could be a problem, if so, it may need to be replaced, or if i was you, id swap it back to the good old mechanical fuel pump.
I'll add to the previous statement about a fuel regulator. If you don't have one, put one in, and don't run more than about four pounds through it with your carb. Some electric pumps can damage the carb because they are too powerful.
Some other things to check, BTW a regulator is a good idea, either built into the pump or external. If built into the pump it may be adjustable, ask the manufacturer how.
The float level in the fuel bowls needs to be set properly. If it is too high it will constantly dribble fuel into the engine.
Also if the carb has a lot of miles or years on it, it may have dried out or leaky gaskets or the accelerator pump may be leaky. The accelerator pump is easy to check, usually under the bowl, and easy to fix, Holley sells pump kits.
You may also have some clogged up jets etc or some parts may be sticking.
It may be worthwhile to do a rebuild if the carb is old. Easy to do if you have a good kit with good pictures. Make sure to either follow torque specs or have a Gentle hand with the fasteners, it is way too easy to strip out the threads in a carb. Also make sure not to put any of the plastic pieces in the carb dip, they may dissolve, experience taught me.
