Question Reduce Torqshift Temperatures

Hello all,

I'd like to know if any of you have installed an aftermarket transmission pan on your Torqshift. My tranny temp varies from 130 to 170 degrees with the truck unloaded - it seems to run hottest when climbing a grade or running at 70-75 mph. I might want to pop for a deeper/finned pan if it would drop the fluid temp. I'm looking at the pans from PML; the Mag Hytek ones are certainly top notch, but well above $300 (more than what I want to spend).

Thanks in advance.

Doug

I've never seen my tranny temp change after the truck warms up. It seems to stay in the same spot, even towing the boat. Looks like it works fine going from cold to it's usual warm spot, about in the center of the gauge. I don't move my truck until the gauge (stock)gets to the that first mark, usually takes a couple minutes after starting, or a little longer in colder weather. I thought about an aftermarket gauge for the tranny, but didn't see the point. Now if they had only put a boost and egt in there......

My tranny temp typically runs in the 160s to mid 170s when unloaded. Even when towing my trailer on the flat it is rarely above that and on hills it doesn't climb much more though I have seen 190s. The worst case was stop and go traffic on the I-15 and I-10 outside LA when the outside ambient temp was over 100 deg. The temp made it up to around 205 to 210 deg.

As soon as I made it through the traffic and started getting some air through the tranny cooler it dropped back down to the 180s.

170 degrees is fine.
A transmission can run too cold (the fluid needs to stay warm to be viscous)
I wouldn't worry about it at all.

There is a thermostat in the TorqShift. It's nominal temperature is 165°F. If you were to add cooling it just won't send fluid to the cooler for a longer time, but it will stay around 160-170°F.
