Backfiring

After I put on my K&N filtercharger, I occasionally get a backfiring sound around my driver side header when accellerating, and occasionally, I'll give someone a heart attack and have a full blown backfire. It only happens every once and a while, but only when I go from cruising to full throttle. The engine is brand new, fully blueprinted and balanced, so I know it's not it. The problem started right around the time I changed to my K&N. Around the same time, I also replaced the fuel pressure regulator with a Paxton adjustable because my old one would only give me around 25psi (stock is 30-35). I have it set at 37 right now. Should I reset my computer, since it was dealing with an underpressure situation? Is it getting too much air and the ECU is overcompensating? This is kinda getting on my nerves. Any advice would be appreciated.


1990 F150 4x4 LWB. 302HO motor. K&N Filter charger. ZF-42 Tranny. 4" Stage 2 Pro Comp Lift. 4.10 gears. 33-12.50 Pro Comp AT tires.

Backfiring

Maybe you have too much oil on the filtercharger, or you may have set the fuel regulator backwards of what you thought 37 psi was, is it backfiring through the intakes or the exhaust? exhaust backfire is a lean condition, you could try resetting computer but you dont have a mass air unless you did a conversion so I doubt its the K&N's fault in itself...
