Give this a try!
My 2005 Owner's manual states that the code is adjacent to the fuse panel in the front passenger's footwell. I would think the design on the 2001 is pretty similar to the new trucks in terms of location for this kind of info.
If you cannot find it, then you may want to call a dealer and give them your vin so they could look it up for you.

Check driver's side under front dash up behind emegency brake. Should be a black control box with a bold 5 digit code for your keyless entry. That's where I found mine after asking the same question.

i have an 04 expedition and I went to the dealer because i bought my car used and they didn't have the code. well they looked under the drivers side and the module was not there...they said this model didn't have it so they had to hook it up to their computer to figure out what the code was. $41.00 later i had my code.
