U-Joint problems

U-Joint problems

I have a 1975 F250, 95000 original miles. The rear ujoint went stiff. Do not have a press. Vise (with cheater) and sockets do not move the cups on the existing ujoint. Ready to cut and drill it out. Soaked with various penetrating items, have it under pressure for hours, no movement.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
PS. We live in New Mexico and are about an hour from anywhere. Next stop - a shop!

What penetrating fluid are you using ?

u-joint problem

Make sure you got the clips out. The clips may be in-side or out-side clips, I'm not sure witch is on that. If the clips are out and it won't move, tap it with a hammer or try a little heat.

Thanks for replies

All on hand is wd40. Clips out. Hammer tapping and tapping and tapping. Friend said bring it over tomorrow and try his press. Never had this problem, but still another learning experience: 30 minute job takes two days. Did I mention the local Napa gave me the wrong parts yesterday?
Only a 40 one way drive.
God does not want me driving the truck for a few days and she always wins.

U-joint Round 2

Sounds like you got a stubern one. Good luck, the press should do the trick. Be careful not to bend the ears in. By the way, the napa thing dosen't suprise me. I'm a mechanic and the shop I work for uses napa for almost everything. I get the wrong parts alot. And it's always fun when you an electical part from them and its bad out of the box. Some days it feels like god just doesn't want you to fix anything.
